Kurukshetra: In an action against drug trafficking, the district police have arrested an accused for possession of a narcotic substance and recovered 1.493 kilogram of opium from his possession. Acting under the guidance of Kurukshetra SP Nitish Aggarwal, a team of the district Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) arrested Sakir, a resident of Anjani in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. The police have also successfully arrested Gurjeet, a resident of Adalti Wala village in Patiala district, Punjab, who is accused of procuring the narcotic substance.Providing details, Kurukshetra police spokesperson said that on January 22, 2026, under the directions of ANC in-charge sub-inspector Satvinder Singh, a team comprising ASI Pawan Kumar, Praveen Kumar, head constable Dinesh Kumar, Vikram Kumar, and driver head constable Jasvinder Singh was present near Umri Morr on National Highway-44. During this time, the team received secret information that Sakir, a resident of UP, was involved in selling opium/smack/heroin and that he would be arriving the same day with opium from Bareilly via Ambala by bus to sell it in the Kurukshetra area.

Acting promptly on the tip-off, the police team reached Pipli bus stand and began surveillance. After some time, a young man was spotted standing under the Pipli flyover.
On suspicion, the police detained him and, upon inquiry, he disclosed his identity as Sakir of Anjani, Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh. A search was conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer, during which 1.493 kilogram of opium were recovered from his possession.A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered against the accused at Thanesar Sadar police station, and he was formally arrested by ANC.Further investigation led to the arrest of Gurjeet of Adalti Wala village in Patiala district, who is accused of ordering the narcotic substance. Both accused were produced before the competent court, and further legal proceedings are underway.
